Launch your public-facing customer portal

The Userorbit customer portal is a dedicated web page where your customers can view announcements, browse the product roadmap, submit feedback, and track the status of their requests. Setting it up gives your customers a self-service hub for product communication.

Enabling the portal

  1. Navigate to Settings → Portal in your dashboard.
  2. Toggle the Enable Portal switch to on.
  3. Your portal is now live at your workspace URL (e.g., yourcompany.userorbit.com).

Configuring portal visibility

You control which sections appear on the portal. Toggle each section independently:

  • Announcements — show published announcements on the portal. Customers can browse your product updates, changelogs, and news.
  • Feedback — allow customers to submit feedback and vote on existing suggestions. You can choose whether feedback is public (visible to all visitors) or private (only visible to the person who submitted it).
  • Roadmap — display your public roadmap so customers can see what you are working on. Only roadmap items marked as public appear here.

Customizing portal appearance

The portal inherits your workspace theme settings from Settings → Design. Additionally, you can configure portal-specific elements:

  • Logo — upload your brand logo to display in the portal header. Recommended dimensions: 200px wide by 40px tall, or a similar horizontal aspect ratio. PNG and SVG formats are supported.
  • Favicon — upload a square icon (32px by 32px recommended) that appears in the browser tab when visitors view your portal.
  • Portal title — set a custom title that appears in the browser tab and as the main heading on the portal homepage.
  • Welcome message — add an optional introductory message displayed at the top of the portal to greet visitors and explain what they can do.

Setting up a custom domain

Instead of using the default yourcompany.userorbit.com subdomain, you can serve the portal from your own domain (e.g., feedback.yourcompany.com):

  1. In Settings → Portal → Custom Domain, enter your desired domain.
  2. Add a CNAME record in your DNS provider pointing your domain to portal.userorbit.com.
  3. Click Verify Domain in the Userorbit settings. DNS propagation may take up to 48 hours, though it typically completes within a few minutes to a few hours.
  4. Once verified, Userorbit automatically provisions an SSL certificate for your custom domain.

Portal access control

By default, the portal is publicly accessible to anyone with the URL. You can restrict access:

  • Public — anyone can view the portal. No login required for browsing. Customers may need to identify themselves to submit feedback.
  • Authenticated only — only users who have been identified through your application (via the SDK) can access the portal.

SEO settings

Configure how your portal appears in search engine results:

  • Meta title — the title shown in search results and browser tabs.
  • Meta description — the summary shown beneath the title in search results.
  • Search engine indexing — toggle whether search engines are allowed to index your portal. Disable this if you want the portal to remain private or semi-private.

Tips

  • Enable only the sections that have content ready. An empty roadmap page can look unfinished.
  • Set up a custom domain to reinforce your brand and make the portal URL easy for customers to remember.
  • Write a welcoming introductory message that sets expectations about what customers can do on the portal.
