This guide shows you how to manage subscribers in Userorbit, which are users who receive email notifications for announcements, roadmap updates, and other communications.

Before You Begin

  • Ensure you have access to the Userorbit Admin Panel.
  • Understand the basic concepts of user management within Userorbit.

Steps

  1. Understand Subscriber Creation Methods — Subscribers can be added to Userorbit in several ways:
    • Auto-created from SDK identify: When your application integrates with the Userorbit SDK and identifies a user with an email address, that user can be automatically added as a contact and, if configured, a subscriber.
    • Manual Creation: You can manually add individual subscribers directly within the Userorbit Admin Panel. Navigate to the "Subscribers" section and look for an "Add Subscriber" option.
    • Import: For larger lists, you can import subscribers from a CSV file. This is typically found in the "Subscribers" or "Settings" section, under an "Import" feature.
  2. Differentiate Between Subscribers and Contacts — It's important to understand the distinction:
    • Contacts are users identified by your application via the Userorbit SDK. They represent individual users within your product.
    • Subscribers are individuals who have opted in to receive email notifications from your Userorbit account.
    • Overlap: A user can be both a contact (identified by SDK) and a subscriber (receives emails). A subscriber might not always be a contact if they were manually added or imported without prior SDK identification.
  3. Manage Individual Subscribers — Once subscribers are in the system, you can manage them:
    • Search: Use the search bar in the "Subscribers" section to find specific subscribers by email address or other identifiable information.
    • Edit: Click on a subscriber's entry to view their details. Here, you can update their information, such as their email address or notification preferences.
    • Delete: If a subscriber should no longer receive communications and you need to remove them from your list, you can delete their entry. Be cautious as this action is usually irreversible.
  4. Configure Email Notification Preferences — Subscribers can often manage their own notification preferences, but you can also oversee them:
    • Within a subscriber's profile in the Admin Panel, you may find options to enable or disable specific types of email notifications (e.g., announcements, roadmap updates).
    • Ensure your communication settings in Userorbit allow users to manage their preferences, often through a link in the email footer.
  5. Handle Unsubscribes — Userorbit automatically manages unsubscribes, but you should be aware of the process:
    • When a user clicks the "unsubscribe" link in an email, Userorbit typically marks them as unsubscribed, preventing future emails.
    • You can view the unsubscribe status within a subscriber's profile. Do not re-subscribe users without their explicit consent.

Verify It Worked

To verify your subscriber management actions:

  • After adding a subscriber, search for them in the "Subscribers" list to confirm their presence.
  • After editing a subscriber, check their profile to ensure the changes have been applied correctly.
  • After importing, review a sample of the imported list to ensure data integrity.
  • Send a test announcement or communication to a test subscriber to confirm they receive emails according to their preferences.
