This guide shows you how to consolidate multiple feedback submissions about the same topic into a single, authoritative feedback item.
Before You Begin
- Access to the Userorbit Admin Panel.
- Permission to manage feedback items.
- An understanding of what constitutes duplicate feedback.
Steps
- Identify Duplicate Feedback — Navigate to the feedback section and use search or review similar titles/descriptions to find items that address the same core issue or suggestion.
- Select the Duplicate Item — From the feedback list, click on the feedback item you have identified as a duplicate. This will be the item that gets merged into another.
- Initiate the Merge — Within the duplicate feedback item's details, locate and select the "Merge" or "Merge Duplicates" option.
- Choose the Original Item — You will be prompted to select the "original" feedback item that the current duplicate will be merged into. This should be the most comprehensive or well-described version.
- Confirm the Merge — Review the merge details and confirm the action.
What Happens When Merged
Once feedback items are merged:
- All votes and comments from the duplicate item are transferred to the original item, consolidating support.
- Users who commented on or voted for the duplicate item are typically notified that their feedback has been merged into another existing item.
- The duplicate feedback item is hidden from public view and marked as merged, preventing confusion.
Best Practices for Managing Duplicates
- Merge Early: Consolidate duplicates as soon as they are identified to ensure all votes and discussions are captured in one place from the start.
- Prioritize Quality: When choosing which item to keep as the "original," select the one with the clearest title, most detailed description, or most relevant attachments.
Verify It Worked
After merging, navigate to the original feedback item. You should see an increased vote count, and comments from the merged item should now be visible. The duplicate item should no longer appear in the main feedback list or should be marked as merged.
