When to create a custom dashboard
The default dashboard covers general metrics, but as your product grows you will want dashboards tailored to specific teams, features, or goals. Custom dashboards let you focus on exactly the metrics that matter for a particular context.
Creating a new dashboard
- Open your analytics project and navigate to the Dashboards section.
- Click New Dashboard in the top-right corner.
- Enter a descriptive name for your dashboard, such as "Onboarding Funnel" or "Weekly Growth Metrics."
- Click Create.
Your new dashboard starts empty, ready for you to add charts and widgets.
Adding charts
To add a chart to your dashboard:
- Click the Add Chart button on the dashboard.
- Select the chart type: line, bar, pie, funnel, or counter.
- Configure the chart by selecting an event or metric, a date range, and any breakdowns or filters you need.
- Give the chart a clear title that describes what it shows.
- Click Save to add it to the dashboard.
You can add as many charts as you need. Each chart operates independently, so you can mix different event types and date ranges on the same dashboard.
Arranging layout
Once you have multiple charts, you can arrange them by dragging and dropping. Userorbit uses a grid layout that automatically adjusts for different screen sizes.
Tips for effective layouts:
- Place the most important metrics at the top of the dashboard where they are visible immediately.
- Group related charts together — for example, put all acquisition metrics in one row and retention metrics in another.
- Use counter widgets for headline numbers and charts for trends.
- Resize charts by dragging their edges to make important visualizations larger.
Configuring date ranges
Each dashboard has a global date range selector that applies to all charts by default. You can set it to common ranges like "Last 7 days," "Last 30 days," or "This month." Individual charts can override the global date range if needed.
Saving and sharing
Dashboards save automatically as you make changes. Every member of your team can access all dashboards within a project.
To share a dashboard with someone:
- Copy the dashboard URL directly from your browser — it is a permanent link.
- Pin important dashboards to make them appear at the top of the dashboard list for your entire team.
Editing and deleting
To edit a chart, click on it and select Edit. You can change the chart type, data source, filters, or title. To remove a chart from the dashboard, click the chart menu and select Remove.
To delete an entire dashboard, open the dashboard settings menu and select Delete Dashboard. This action is permanent, so confirm that no one on your team still relies on it before deleting.
