This guide shows you how to optimize your help center articles for both internal search and external search engines (SEO) to improve discoverability.

Before You Begin

  • Access to the Userorbit Admin Panel.
  • Permissions to edit help center articles.

Steps

  1. Understand Internal Search — The help center uses full-text search, meaning it indexes and searches all content within your published articles. To improve internal search results, ensure your article content is comprehensive and uses relevant keywords naturally.
  2. Configure SEO Fields — For each article, locate the SEO settings. Here you can set the seoTitle (under 60 characters) and metaDescription (under 160 characters). These are crucial for how your article appears in search engine results.
  3. Customize URL Slugs — Edit the URL slug for your articles to make them descriptive and keyword-rich. A clean, readable URL slug improves both user experience and search engine ranking.
  4. Leverage Proper Headings — Use <h1> for your main article title and <h2>, <h3>, etc., for sub-sections within your article. This hierarchical structure helps search engines understand your content and improves readability for users.
  5. Review Meta Tags and Open Graph — The help center automatically generates essential meta tags and Open Graph data based on your article's content and SEO fields. Ensure your seoTitle and metaDescription are compelling, as they often populate these tags for social sharing.
  6. Understand Sitemap Generation — Your help center automatically generates and updates a sitemap (sitemap.xml). This sitemap is submitted to search engines like Google, helping them discover and index your articles efficiently. You don't need to manually create or submit it.
  7. Apply Discoverability Best Practices — Always use clear, concise article titles that accurately reflect the content. Incorporate relevant keywords naturally throughout the article. Write compelling metaDescriptions that encourage clicks from search results.

Verify It Worked

After publishing, search for your article using keywords in both the help center's internal search and external search engines like Google. Check the search engine results page (SERP) to ensure your seoTitle and metaDescription are displayed correctly. Share your article on a social media platform (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn) and verify that the Open Graph data (title, description, image if applicable) appears as expected.
