This guide shows you how to set up a custom domain for your Userorbit-powered help center.

Before You Begin

  • You need administrative access to your domain registrar or DNS provider to manage DNS records.
  • You must have administrator access to the Userorbit Admin Panel.

Steps

  1. Understand the Benefits — Using a custom domain (e.g., `support.yourcompany.com` instead of `yourcompany.userorbit.com`) enhances your brand presence and can improve search engine optimization (SEO) for your help content.
  2. Configure a CNAME Record — Log in to your domain registrar or DNS provider's control panel. Create a new CNAME record. For the 'Host' or 'Name' field, enter the subdomain you want to use (e.g., `help`, `support`, or `docs`). For the 'Points to' or 'Value' field, enter `help.userorbit.com`. Save this new record.
  3. Enter Custom Domain in Userorbit — Navigate to the Userorbit Admin Panel. Go to your Help Center settings (the exact path may vary, but typically found under `Settings > Help Center` or `Help Center > Domain Settings`). Locate the field for 'Custom Domain' and enter your full custom domain (e.g., `help.yourcompany.com`).
  4. Automatic SSL Certificate — Userorbit automatically provisions and renews a free SSL certificate for your custom domain using Let's Encrypt. This ensures all traffic to your help center is secure via HTTPS, and no further action is required from you for SSL.
  5. Save Your Settings — After entering your custom domain in Userorbit, click the 'Save' or 'Update' button to apply your changes.

Verify It Worked

Open a web browser and navigate to your custom domain (e.g., `https://help.yourcompany.com`). Your help center should load securely under your custom domain. Initial propagation of DNS changes can take up to 48 hours, so if it doesn't work immediately, please wait a few hours and try again.

Common DNS Issues: If your custom domain isn't resolving after a reasonable waiting period, double-check your CNAME record for any typos. Ensure there are no conflicting DNS records (like an A record) for the same subdomain. For more detailed troubleshooting, refer to our general article on custom domain setup.
