This guide shows you how to effectively manage when and how often your product tours are displayed to users, ensuring an optimal and engaging user experience.
Before You Begin
- Access to the Userorbit Admin Panel.
- An existing product tour created or in draft status.
- Understanding of your target user segments.
Steps
- Navigate to your Product Tours — In the Userorbit Admin Panel, go to the "Product Tours" section from the main navigation. Select the specific tour you wish to configure.
- Configure Display Frequency Settings — Within the tour's settings, locate the "Display Frequency" section.
- Show Once Per User (Default) — Select this option for tours that should only appear a single time for each unique user, typically for initial onboarding or feature introductions.
- Show Every Session — Choose this setting for tours that you want to display every time a user starts a new session in your application.
- Show N Times — Specify a numerical value (e.g., 3, 5) to limit the tour's display to a set number of times per user. The tour will stop appearing once this limit is reached.
- Show After a Delay — Set a time duration (e.g., 5 seconds, 1 minute) after which the tour will begin to display once its trigger conditions are met.
- Schedule Tours for a Date Range — In the tour settings, find the "Scheduling" options. Set a Start Date and an optional End Date to ensure the tour only appears within a specific time frame. This is useful for seasonal campaigns or time-limited feature rollouts.
- Manage Frequency Capping Across Tours — Access the global "Tour Settings" or "Frequency Capping" section (often found under a main "Product Tours" or "Settings" menu) to configure limits on how many tours a user can see within a given period (e.g., no more than 2 tours per day). This prevents users from being overwhelmed.
- Define Tour Priority — If multiple tours are configured to target the same page or trigger conditions, locate the "Priority" setting for each tour. Assign a numerical value (e.g., 1 for highest, 10 for lowest) to determine which tour takes precedence and displays first.
- Understand Completion and Dismissal Effects — Be aware that once a user completes a tour (interacts with all steps) or explicitly dismisses it, the tour typically will not display again, regardless of other frequency settings, unless explicitly re-triggered or if the "Show Every Session" option is selected.
Verify It Worked
To confirm your settings, test the tour with a new user account or in a private browsing session. Verify that the tour displays according to your frequency limits, appears only within the scheduled date range, and that priority rules are correctly applied when multiple tours are active on the same page.
